The last few days for me have been much sadder and emotional than I ever anticipated. I truly did not even realize I was as attached to Fred as I am. It was not until late Saturday when I left Benezette for the first time after he passed and I by reflex still found myself cutting glances in yards and fields to see if I could catch a glimpse of ole’ Freddie. Looking for Fred is as ingrained in my traveling routine as putting the key in the ignition is. Now whenever I leave home and drive down Winslow Hill, I just feel a bit of sadness in my heart.
I wanted to say something here that would be profound or that would capture the essence of Fred in words, but all I feel now is sadness. Instead I will let the photos you all sent me speak for themselves.
Rest in peace Fred, your legend will never die!
Feel free to leave comments of tribute or respect for Fred on this post or at www.facebook.com/paelk.

I still can’t believe how Fred’s passing has effected our family. We’re from outside of Baltimore, but travel to Clearfield several times a year. We always make at least one trip to Bennezette, each time we head up north. Fred was always THE topic of conversation – where will he be? hope he’s doing ok.. etc. We saw him the weekend before Thanksgiving and he’d been on our minds a great bit since then. We went up again right after Christmas and looked and looked all over and couldn’t find him. We all had this sinking feeling, but in the dark, just outside of Benezette, there was Freddie, all laid back and relaxed in someone’s yard down by the road. I know it sounds crazy, but we all felt it was as if Freddie made it a point to say goodbye to us. We will miss him terribly.
Amazing how much an animal can affect our lives. RIP buddy. you will be missed.
