I just spoke to the folks at the Visitors Center and they mentioned that Fred’s (bull #36) rack will be there in the coming week. They plan to display it so that it can actually be touched and not just looked at. At least that is their initial plans. They currently have some photos, newspaper articles and his collar which are all great to peek at. We were lucky enough today to get to handle Fred’s collar, which is still active, and were amazed with its size.
As soon as his antlers are there we will let you all know as well as seeif we can learn more about what they are planning with regard to how they will display them.
That looks like a new collar? Is it really the original I know Fred’s was broken up on one side
That is the original collar worn by Fred. Up close and you can tell it is definitely used. It is also active meaning that the tracking beacon is still workings so should it ever go missing it can be found again.
Did Fred the elk die, or are they just displaying is rack and collar? Thanks.
